York Castle Museum

About the company:

York Castle Museum is one of the UK’s leading museums illustrating everyday life of the past. It shows how people lived, through thousands of household items and the recreation of halls, shops, streets and even prison cells.

Exhibits of the museum include both an illustration of the life of noblemen, for example, the Victorian living room and dining room of the XVII century, and everyday life, including an exhibition on washing and cleaning. There is also a gallery of hearths with fireplaces and kitchens. Another interesting exhibition was opened in an old debt prison. Here visitors can get acquainted with the prison life and the conditions in which prisoners were kept.

Recreation of the scenes continues to this day, and the museum fund, reflecting the daily life of the region, is regularly replenished. This has led to the York Castle Museum being of national importance in the scale and wealth of its holdings. By the end of the XX century, the museum was visited by more than 31 million people.
