About the company:
The National Railway Museum in York is one of the world’s largest museums of this type. It was founded in 1975. During the year there are about a million visitors. On 8 hectares of the square there are unique expositions telling about the history of railway transport in the UK.
The collection of historically significant vehicles includes more than 100 locomotives and about 200 varieties of cars that worked on the railway at different periods of its development. Hundreds of thousands of interesting exhibits, including signal equipment, staff uniforms and historical photographs, are on display in three large halls of the former depot, near the railway station.
The permanent exhibition includes Palaces on Wheels, a collection of royal trains dating back to the Victorian era. There are about 20,000 books and 800 journals in the large library, as well as an archive of technical documentation and engineering drawings.
The museum has several LED screens showing short films related to the history of the British railway. The museum is a popular attraction of the city, causing interest among tourists.
