Gul Baba Street
Gul Baba utca, 1025 Budapest, Hungary
Description:
The winding street of Gul Baba is not only one of the most colorful and picturesque places in Budapest, but also the memory of the famous Turkish dervish, who was reverently called the “Father of the Roses”.
In the XVI century on the territory of modern Hungary came the soldiers of the Ottoman Empire. Their cultural heritage is reflected in the expressive architecture of Gul Baba Street. The paved road, surrounded by colorful two-storey houses in the Turkish style, leads straight to the ancient, majestic complex called Gul Baba-Turbe. It was erected in the middle of the XVI century after the mysterious death of a dervish named Gul Baba, who even today is highly revered by the Turkish people. At that time, Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent declared him the patron saint of the Hungarian lands.
