Gyor - Bratislava

Gyor, once the ancient Roman city of Arrabona, a long time rich merchant city on the banks of the Danube and the Raba River, a fortress of strategic importance, especially in terms of the defense of Vienna. Today, Hungary’s 5th largest city after Budapest, an important industrial center, produces cars and buses. Tourists visit the city, however, because of the very beautiful, in Hungary the largest area of the medieval center. During the walk we will see here a very beautiful, 1000 years ago founded cathedral, and a monument to carbonated water and its inventor, and winding medieval streets. In the center there are many colorful shops, restaurants, pastry shops. Since we went in the morning, it is not yet lunchtime in Gyor, it is just interesting to visit one of the beautiful pastry towns on the pedestrian street and eat a cup of coffee (or anyone who wants something to eat).

We are on our way to Bratislava. We drive all over Hungary, as soon as we cross the border, we will immediately see a sign with the name of the city. Strangely, the center of the capital of the Slovak Republic is just a few kilometers from Hungary and even closer to Austria. We reached the Danube, across the river the road goes along an interesting bridge, on top of which rises the popular in the city "UFO", i.e. "flying saucer", observation deck and restaurant. But while we pass the bridge, the bridge offers a beautiful view of the Castle and the Old Town. We will walk around the castle, in the Old Town, in places, so many important historical events took place. This Slovak city was for almost 300 years the main city of the Kingdom of Hungary and the place of coronation of the kings of Hungary. Once an interesting city with 3 languages, Hungarian, Slovak and German. Today it is the developing capital of the young Slovak state.

As part of a walk around the center, there will be an opportunity to eat in the Slovak national restaurant, in the summer it is interesting to go to the suburbs of Devin and walk among the ruins of a medieval castle. Before leaving, it is worth climbing the famous “UFO”, from where a wonderful view opens up to the city and the surrounding area.
