Tata - Pannonhalma Abbey
Description:
I invite you to the picturesque town of Tata, located on the magnificent Old Lake, with an ancient fortress - the former hunting castle of the Hungarian kings Sigismund and Matyas, water mills and the palace of the Esterhazy family. The town of Water is called Tatu, so rich is this place with keys, streams, lakes and canals.
The second point of the route is Pannonhalma - the main Abbey of the Order of Benedectins in Hungary, founded in 996 by Prince Geyza, the father of St. King Istvan. The Abbey’s most valuable library has more than 300,000 volumes, among which are handwritten and first printed books and the most important documents of the earliest existence of the Hungarian state, first written in Hungarian. Here you can see an art gallery with real masterpieces of Italian, German, Dutch artists and architectural finds.
The second largest abbey monastery in the world and its main structure - the Basilica of St. Martin can be seen from afar, towering over a huge hill of 280 m, representing a stunning sight. But from the top of the hill there is a beautiful view of the surrounding hillland, passing into the plain.
You can dine in a wonderful national restaurant with stunning cuisine.
