Vineyards are one of the main attributes of the ancient city of Eger. How old is it? The exact date of foundation is unknown. But we know that the first Hungarian king Istvan founded in 1004 one of the first Catholic dioceses of the country. The name of this city in Hungary for almost 1000 years has been synonymous not only with majestic temples, but also with delicious wine. On the glorious defense of the Eger fortress, a classic historical novel by the Hungarian writer Gez Gardoni “Stars of Eger” was written. Since the city center was redesigned in the Baroque style in the 18th century, the expression “City of Hungarian Baroque” is often used about it.
In Eger, the main points of the program: a pleasant walk through the ancient streets, and through the ruins of a historical fortress, a visit to the majestic Cathedral (Basilica), a visit to one of the interesting restaurants with national cuisine and a visit to the famous wine cellars throughout the country (possible tasting and buying Eger wines).
EGERSALOK
The city region is rich in healing springs and thermal baths. On the way back we pass the village of Egersalok near which one of the most interesting and exotic thermal springs of Hungary is located. Here recently built a magnificent bath, a visit to which I advise to complete the program of the day. It is not necessary, but it is very pleasant.
