Lake Balaton (Alba Regia - Tihany - Balatonfüred)

Description:

Our goal is to see Lake Balaton, the largest lake in Central Europe and the most famous summer resort in Hungary.

This lake in our country is “modestly” called the “Hungarian Sea”. And the truth is that it often happens that we do not see distant shores. In length it is slightly more than 70 km, in width more than 10, around the perimeter about 200 km.

We plan to visit two particularly famous places: on the Tihan Peninsula in the village of Tihan (where we can visit the almost 1000-year-old abbey and see the picturesque museum-village near the abbey, and beautiful views of the lake), and in the most historical resort of Balatonfüred, where we will see a tree planted by the great Indian poet - composer - artist, Nobel Prize winner Rabindranath Tagore, in memory of his recovery at this resort. We walk along the alley of Rabindranath Tagore, feed the swans on the embankment, try healing mineral water at the spring, admire the picturesque view of the lake, marina and Tihan Peninsula, and with good weather we can ride a yacht or swim in the lake.

On the way to Balaton, we stop in the town of Szekesfehervar (known by its medieval name Alba Regia), in which most of the Hungarian kings were once crowned, is now famous for its elegant urban center in the Baroque style and an interesting work by the sculptor Eno Bori “The Castle of Love”, also known as “BORIVAR”.

Lunch is conceived in one of the colorful restaurants in the national style, with Hungarian cuisine.

In good weather, of course, it will be possible to swim in Balaton (in this case, you may refuse to visit Szekesfehervar)

Balaton is a wine region - if desired, you can organize a wine tasting.

This excursion is interesting not only in summer, but very beautiful and picturesque in these places in spring and autumn, even in winter.
