Ho Than Tho Lake (Lake of Sadness)

The lake got its name during the war between Vietnam and China. According to local legend, young lovers lived here, who spent time admiring the landscapes around the lake. But one day the young man went to war.

The lovers had to meet by the lake to say goodbye because the young man's military unit was about to head north. His beloved Mai Nuong, who was also overwhelmed by patriotic feelings, decided to commit suicide so that thoughts about her did not distract the young man from performing his military duty. And when it was time to say goodbye, the young man Hoang Tong came to the agreed place, but the girl had already drowned. Locals who heard this sad story and decided to rename the lake to Lake of Sadness (Ho Than Tho). According to another version of this legend, the girl drowned in grief, not waiting for her beloved on the shore.
