The Grotto of Stone Pillars (Hang Dou Go)

Driftwood Island, Halong, Quang Ninh, Vietnam

Description:

Not only is Halong Bay beautiful in itself - its islands, like magical chests, inconspicuous from the outside, conceal real treasures inside. We are talking about caves and grottoes that literally permeate the islands.

The Stone Pillars Grotto is perhaps the most beautiful of them. From a distance, the entrance looks like a bluish jellyfish. 90 steps along the shore and you are at the entrance to the underworld. The height of the arch of the grotto is about 25 meters. Stalactites hang from the ceiling with a stone waterfall. Stone floods on the walls create fantastic drawings.

The grotto consists of three compartments. In the center of the first on a large stone pillar is the figure of a monk wrapped in a long dark cloak. He holds a staff in his right hand. The second compartment is smaller in area, you can get into it by passing through the "door" - a narrow passage formed as a result of erosion of the stone. Here, too, stalactites hang, but they are smaller in size and more elegant in shape.

The third part of the grotto is the largest. Nature created here an intricate composition, very similar to the image of battle: spears and arrows flew, warriors fled, horses roared, lions roared - and suddenly all this in one second froze forever. A little imagination and a successful illumination paint the missing details of this picture in the imagination.
