Grotto Sung Soth (Grotto of Surprises)

Hai Phong, Vietnam

Description:

This is one of the most picturesque caves of Halong Bay. Upon entering the cave, a truly amazing world is revealed in front of you - thousands of stalactites here form elegant columns. Imagination itself seeks out in the bizarre curves of rocks the outlines of people, animals and trees.

From the pier, you will have to climb the stone staircase that leads to the entrance to the Sung Sot Grotto (Grotto of Surprises), located at an altitude of 25 meters above sea level. Inside the grotto along the paved road hang lanterns - they help not to stray from the path and add a grotto of special mystery. In the Sung Sot grotto, two palaces one of them is somewhat similar to a theater hall, from the ceiling of which hangs a large number of stalactites of bizarre shapes and sizes.

In the second hall you can pass through a narrow passage. Inside it can safely accommodate about 1000 people. The rock near the entrance looks like a horse with a sword. Local legend has it that after defeating the conquerors, Thanh Dong helped drive away evil spirits and demons. Then he ascended to heaven, leaving his sword and horse on earth. This was done to frighten the demons away from here. If you go deep into the grotto, you will find yourself in the “royal garden” with a pond and a miniature mountain landscape. In this green corner on sunny days, monkeys are taken in search of fruit.
