Due to the ongoing volcanic activity in the Hakone area, many underground hot springs are hitting, feeding with their waters an immeasurable number of "onsen" - hot springs in the open air. Hakone became famous for its onsen, where since ancient times came monks, courtiers, samurai and ordinary travelers to swim in the hot healing waters of the resort. Hakone provides onsen of all kinds: large bathing complexes (Yunessun), private onsen at hotels and private baths.
