Owakudani Valley

Sengokubara-1251, Hakone, Japan

Description:

The Ovakudani Valley is one of the must-see points on most tourist routes in Japan. This is an amazing area with sulfur fountains that beat from the ground. More than 3 thousand years ago, on the site where sulfur springs today break out, Hakone volcano erupted, and a huge crater with a diameter of about 13 thousand km was formed.

Already at the entrance to the Ovakudani valley, there is a strong smell of sulfur, sharp and not very pleasant. But for tourists, it is more important to climb to the geysers, see the fascinating landscapes with mountain slopes and tops of green trees, among which Lake Asinoko is located. It offers a great view of Mount Fuji.

The Ovakudani Valley of Geysers is known for its amazing tradition of rejuvenation. To add an extra 10 years of life, tourists are offered to eat a “black egg”. This color of the shell of an ordinary chicken egg acquires after it is boiled in a sulfur spring.

You can get to the Ovakudani Valley as part of tourist groups, by car or by public transport. The journey will take about 2.5 hours. The starting point is Tokyo Station. The train runs from her to Odawara. Then by another train about an hour to the station Gora, and to the finish line – by cable car only 8-10 minutes.
