Himeji - The Castle of the White Heron
Description:
I recommend this tour for those who have already seen the main attractions of the old capital. A trip to Himeji Castle is a great opportunity to see a very elegant snow-white castle, passing on a soaring heron. It is the only medieval castle preserved in its original form. The castle miraculously survived World War II, despite being bombarded twice. The Himeji complex is not only a vivid example of Japanese castle architecture, but also stunningly beautiful views of Kokoen gardens. The latter are excellent walking gardens (of a total of nine), which were recreated on the basis of archaeological excavations of old samurai houses of the XVII-XIX centuries.
