Temple of Transparent Water
Description:
Kiyomizudera, or Temple of Transparent Water, is a famous Buddhist shrine of Japan located in the eastern part of the ancient capital Kyoto on Mount Otova. Tradition says that the Buddhist monk Entin found a transparent waterfall on the mountain, and a voice from above ordered him to find its beginning. When he found the source, he met the mountain hermit Goei. From a piece of wood given to Entin by a hermit, in which the spirit of the goddess Kannon Bosatsu allegedly resided, he carved a statue of the goddess and built a hut for her. Later, a temple appeared on this place.
