Temple of the god Apedemak

Description:

This temple was erected on top of a slag hill from metallurgical waste, which is located just east of the railway laid in our time.

It consists of two small rooms surrounded by a wall, which was once decorated with reliefs, now almost completely destroyed. Several steps leading to the first room were guarded by two stone lions, one of which was found in its original location. It was these lions, as well as a stele found in the temple with the name of the lion god Apedemak written in the Meroitic language, that gave the temple its name. The name of King Tekerideamani, found on the stone base of the statue, made it possible to establish the time of its construction.
