What to see in Khartum

Khartoum is a city on the confluence of the White and Blue Nile with a special history and atmosphere, where African and Arab traditions meet. Here modern life is combined with the ancient layers of the history of Sudan: from the kingdoms of the Meroites to the era of the pharaohs and colonial changes, and walks along the embankments and narrow streets provide an opportunity to feel the rhythm of the city.

Manufactures and facilities

Among the man-made attractions that are worth seeing are the statue found in Dongola and dedicated to King Taharqa, the ruins of the temple of Amun and temples in the valley of Mussawarat el Sufra, revealing the secrets of the ancient state of Meroe. There are also temples to the god Apedemak and archaeological sites near Jebel Barkal, and in the region, Omdurman is known for its bustling market, one of the oldest centers of trade and crafts in Sudan.

Natural attractions and places

Natural attractions complement the picture: the crater lake Deriba in the volcanic crater Marra impresses with its unusual shape and landscape, the lonely rock Jebel Barkal rises above the plain next to the Nile, and the dry bed of Wadi Muqaddam comes to life during the rainy seasons, turning into a picturesque oasis zone. The Nile and its banks set the pulse of the nature of the region, offering views and walking routes by the water.
