Riverbed Wadi Muqaddam

North Kordofan, Sudan

Description:

Wadi Muqaddam is a dry riverbed filled with water only during the rainy season.

It is located in northeastern Sudan, at the confluence of the White and Blue Nile.

It would seem that the Nile, clamped on both sides by deserts, would have to completely dry up during the hot summer, or at least become very shallow, as happens with most rivers in desert areas. But, strangely enough, everything happens in reverse. At the height of summer, by the end of August, when the heat reaches its limit, the river level begins to rise, filling the drained rivers with stormy streams of water.

On the territory of Wadi Muqaddam you can see a unique acacia grove, rubber trees, papyrus, baobabs and oil palms.

Of the typical representatives of the animal world, hippos, crocodiles, leopards, giraffes, lions, all kinds of monkeys, tropical birds and snakes are most often found in this place.
