Deriba Crater Lake

The lake is located in the Darfur region of western Sudan

Description:

Lake Deriba is located in the crater of the Marra volcano in the Darfur region of South Sudan. The crater with the lake is the highest point of the volcano, whose height is 3042 meters.

The crater was formed due to the collapse of the summit of the volcano during an eruption about 3,500 years ago. Gradually, the crater began to fill with precipitation, a lake 5 kilometers wide was formed. Despite the flooding of the crater with water, it is not extinct, but dormant, as it still has hot springs.
