Dilijan

Yerevan - Sevan - Dilijan - Agartsin - Goshavank - Yerevan

Description:

“Pearl of Armenia” – Lake Sevan is one of the largest high-altitude freshwater lakes in the world. This natural wonder is located in the heart of the Armenian Highlands, in a huge mountain bowl framed by picturesque mountain ranges at an altitude of 1900 m. Of the historical monuments, the most famous are:

* Sevanavank Monastery, located on a peninsula near the city of Sevan in the northwestern part of the lake. The monastery was founded in 874. Initially, the monastery was located on the island, but due to the lowering of the water level, an isthmus was formed, connecting the island with land.

* The monastery, located on the western slope - Ayrivank, was founded in the IX century.

We will visit both there and there, especially since both monasteries are located on a hill, and there is a wonderful view of the lake.

Further, our way lies through the Semenovsky Pass and a tunnel about two kilometers long into the city of Dilijan.

It is said that if there were forests, mountains and mineral springs in paradise, paradise would look like Dilijan. We will walk through the old town, and then in the program the monastery of Agartsin. Perhaps the best place of the Dilijan Reserve is the Agartsin Gorge. In the upper reaches of the Agartsin River, 18 km from Dilijan and 6 km from the highway, the monastery of Agartsnavank is located. The oldest structure of the monastery complex Church of Surb Grigor (St. Gregory) was built at the end of the X century. fleeing from persecution by monks from Western Armenia of Byzantium.

We've got Goshavank next.

Getik Monastery was founded by Mkhitar Ghosh with the assistance of Prince Ivane Zakaryan in 1188. It received the name "Nor-Getik", which in Armenian means "New Getik" (from "get" - "river", because of the river passing nearby). After the death of Gosh in 1213, the monastery was also called Goshavank. One of the largest cultural, educational and religious centers of medieval Armenia.
