Vienna International Airport

Description:

Vienna International Airport is one of the largest and busiest airports in Austria. Located 18 kilometers southeast of the capital. During the year, the airport serves more than fifteen million passengers.

Vienna Airport was originally designed as a military airport - it was built in 1938, and at that time there was only one runway. After World War II, the airport was modernized by the British authorities - they built an additional runway, and the old one was expanded to accommodate wide-body aircraft.

Vienna International Airport has hosted Olympic teams twice, and both times proved to be the best. Also, the services of this airport were constantly used by Pope John Paul II during his trips. In 2008, Vienna International Airport was voted the best airport in Central and Eastern Europe.

By 2015, a significant modernization of the airfield is planned - the construction of a new control tower and another terminal, as well as the laying of a railway directly to the airport. After the reconstruction, the Vienna International Airport will become even more convenient for passengers.
