Varna

Mystic Sukhodolye: the canyon of rock monasteries

Description:

Just 100 km from Varna – between Dobrich and Silistra – there is a hidden place where time has frozen in stone. The Dry River Canyon, once full-flowing, and now almost dried up, stores dozens of caves, bizarre rock forms and early Byzantine monasteries of the V-VI centuries. This is not just a walk, but an immersion in the mystical atmosphere of the first Christian hermits.

It is a route for travelers tired of bustling beaches, photographers and seekers of abandoned locations, amateur historians and antiquities stalkers.

The route begins near the village of Onogur. Having passed along the riverbed of the Dry River, we will go down to the parched rocky channel - and visit several rocky monasteries.

We will cross the channel, climb the rashes, push the thickets (we recommend closed clothes and trekking shoes).

Addition to the route is the ruins of the Palmatis fortress. Its main attraction is the basilica of the middle of the VI century with a unique syntron height of 2.7 to 3 meters.

This tour is for those who are not looking for a tick, but a true adventure. You will see the cells cut down 1500 years ago. Sukhodolia will not disappoint - it will make you come back.
