What to see in Varna

Varna is a bright port city on the northern shore of the Gulf of Varna, the pearl of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. Its atmosphere combines sea breeze, historical layers and modern life: from cozy embankments to green parks, from ancient ruins in the vicinity to lively beaches. The city attracts both those who like measured walks, and those who are looking for active routes by the sea.

Manufactures and facilities

Varna’s man-made sights are impressive in their diversity: the Assumption Cathedral with golden domes rises in the center and sets a solemn tone, and the Primorsky Park – the largest and most famous public park in Bulgaria – stretches along the coast and unites alleys, monuments and cultural places. Among the city's pearls are the Dolphinarium, unique to the Balkans, the Black Sea Aquarium and Museum with collections of marine fauna, as well as the Aladja Monastery with its rock cells. In the vicinity you can see the fortress of Ovech on the Provadian plateau and ancient settlements, and near the ancient Nessebar and historical monuments of the Madar plateau.

Natural attractions and places

The nature around Varna is not inferior in attractiveness: the long sandy strips of the City Beach, the secluded beach of Fichoza and the popular Kabakum offer different beach experiences - from busy areas to quiet coves. The University Botanical Garden "Ecopark" gives green oases right in the city, and seascapes, coastal promenades and picturesque plateaus in the vicinity create a wide range of natural routes for walks, picnics and photo walks.
