Sveshtars: World Heritage
Description:
Near the small village of Sveshtar in the Razgrad region is a masterpiece of Thracian funerary construction, the tomb of Dromichet, the ruler of the Geta tribe. Famous for being able to capture Lysimachus, one of the heirs of Alexander the Great, Dromichet was honored by his fellow tribesmen of the magnificent building in which he rested after his death. The interior of the tomb is not only a masterpiece of ancient art, but also has no analogues. The excellent preservation and uniqueness of the Sveshtar Tomb has been recognized internationally: In 1985, it was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Another remarkable object in the area of Sveshtar is the Alevis monastery of Demir-Baba-tekke. We will go down to the picturesque canyon to the wonderful spring, admire the Alevis medieval architecture and talk about the features of this unusual branch of Islam.
