Old Nessebar
Description:
The small but ancient town of Nessebar attracts thousands of tourists every year. Located on a peninsula whose main territory is connected to the mainland by a narrow isthmus, it still retains the spirit of antiquity. On a small piece of land you can see architectural monuments of antiquity, the Middle Ages, late Ottoman and modern times. Numerous churches of old Nessebar have architectural features characteristic only for this city. Largely thanks to them, Nessebar was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
On the way to the city we will meet the famous Greek mill, one of the symbols of the city. Having passed the remains of the ancient gates, we will pass along the old pavements, see the buildings left from the time of the Romans, admire the frescoes of the XVI-XVIII centuries and, of course, the ruins of the “Old Metropolis” – the Church of St. Sophia of Nessebar. From the embankment, we will have magnificent views of the Golden Sands resort and the easternmost part of the Balkan Mountains (Stara Planina), including Cape Emine, a place where mountains meet the sea.
