About the company:
The Archaeological Museum, located in Varna, is one of the largest in Bulgaria. It was created in the summer of 1886 and was originally located on the territory of the city library. The current building in which the museum is located was built in 1898 in the Neo-Renaissance style. The first exposition was opened in June 1906, and the first director of the museum was the famous archaeologist Karel Shkorpil. Since 1945, the management and financing of the institution passed to the state. The total area of the archaeological museum is 2150 square meters.
Its infrastructure includes 32 exhibition halls, a library, an archive, study rooms, a storage facility and a huge courtyard that houses marble and stone exhibits. The permanent exhibitions of the institution are divided into three parts - Prehistory, Antiquity and the Middle Ages. Also here you can get acquainted with the oldest gold treasures in the world, as well as with unique icons of the Renaissance. One of the most popular examples of the museum is a symbol of monarchical power – the golden wand. Also of particular interest is the coffin, which contains the skeleton of a 50-year-old man, covered with many gold jewelry.
