Varna Airport

Description:

Varna Airport is the third largest airport in Bulgaria. It is located 10 kilometers from the center of Varna, near the city of Aksakovo.

The history of Varna Airport began in 1916. Irregular flights between Varna and Sofia began in 1919-1920, and the first regular flight appeared only in 1947. The decision to build a new airport was made in 1946. Construction lasted almost 30 years. The terminal was built in 1972 and a runway was built in 1974.

Currently, the passenger traffic of Varna Airport has increased significantly, which is due to the development of the tourism industry in Bulgaria. This led to the need to expand and modernize the airport.

From October 15, 2011 to February 28, 2012, Varna Airport closed for the reconstruction of the runway. A new passenger terminal is also under construction.
