Prevlač ka, Tivat, Montenegro

Description:

The Church of St. Sava is an Orthodox church built between 1938 and 1968, in honor of the highly revered saint Sava of Serbia.

Savva was known not only as a religious man, but also as a cultural and political figure of the XII century. He was able to build a proper church hierarchy and strengthen faith and piety in the Serbs.

The church was built in Neo-Byzantine style by architects Alexander Deroko and Bogdan Nestorovich. It occupies an area of 7.570 square meters and in its scale surpasses the St. Sophia Cathedral. Its height is 65 meters, and the diameter of the dome, around which four turrets are installed, is 35 meters. The layout of the temple differs from the Constantinople model in that there is no merger between the basilica and the central structure.
