Design Copenhagen
Description:
Behind the ordinary objects that surround us in everyday life are extraordinary stories of witty decisions. Everything around us is design items: furniture, urban architecture, household items, clothes and shoes, children's toys, dishes and means of transportation. For decades, Danish designs have been recognized around the world as an example of inspiration in creating beautiful, original and functional things. I invite you to enter the world of Danish design to see what Danish design looks like today.
During a 3-hour tour of Copenhagen, we will get acquainted with the most famous brands of Danish designers and learn their success stories: Arne Jacobsen - developer, the world's first designer hotel in Copenhagen "Radisson Blu Royal"; Paul Henningsen - the inventor of PH lamps, which can be found in any Danish house; Ole Christiansen - the founder of the campaign "Lego"; Peter Bodum - who founded the campaign for home goods, whose motto was "Good design is not necessarily expensive design"; Georg Jensen - exclusive household items and silver jewelry.
Our journey will begin in the heart of Copenhagen at the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, where we will visit the interior of the hotel designed by Arne Jacobsen, as well as sit in the Egg and Swan chairs, which have become world famous. Then we will walk through the central and historical part of Copenhagen, during which you will learn the history of Danish design, which Danish campaigns made Denmark famous all over the world, which brands are the most popular today, as well as what interesting restaurants there are in Copenhagen and what is Danish society, the Danes and the Danish way of life.
During the tour, we will visit the design workshop “Sogreni”, where bicycles are made in hand for the past 30 years, visit the exhibition center Louis Poulsen (PH lamps), in the stores “Lego” (children’s designers), “Royal Copenhagen” (porcelain), “Georg Jensen” (silver jewelry), “Bang & Olufsen” (futuristic design audio systems) and “Bodum” (designer kitchen items).
We will finish our trip on the popular Nyhavn waterfront (Date Nyhavn), where we will visit the exhibition hall of the House of Amber campaign. Here you will learn why amber is called “northern gold”, what decorations can be made from this precious stone, and if you visit the amber museum the floor above, you can trace the 30 million history of this stone and learn how and where it is mined in Scandinavia.
Important: the route of the tour can change slightly from time to time. This type of tour should be booked at least a week before it is held.
In 3 hours you will not become an expert in the field of Danish design, but you will know what it is in practice, you will visit exclusive exhibition salons and designer shops, as well as have a great time and hear many interesting stories from the life of modern Copenhagen.
