Historic Copenhagen
Description:
Welcome to Copenhagen, a city with centuries-old traditions, although it once began with a small fishing village. Empires are built and collapsed, geniuses are born and die, more and more technology is coming into our world. All these processes have one word in common – time that flows like water. To capture the passage of time, people write history, and today I want to introduce you to the history of Copenhagen.
We will plunge into the history of the Danish capital, make monuments, buildings and sculptures talk. We will walk through the streets of Copenhagen and move from the modern city during the time of Bishop Absalon, a tireless war, builder and minister of God. Today we are interested in Copenhagen from the point of view of history: where Denmark came from, who the Danes are, when and where it all began, who the Vikings were, how Copenhagen developed and built over the centuries, where authentic buildings, squares, sculptures have been preserved. All these questions will be answered during our walk around the city.
On our route there will be one of the oldest squares of Copenhagen, where the oldest city fountain Caritas is located, as well as the Cathedral of the Virgin, which stands here thanks to the efforts of Bishop Absalon, the founder of Copenhagen. We will go to the pages of history, where it is told how and when everything began for Denmark, who the Vikings were, how it happened that at the end of the 14th century all power in Scandinavia was concentrated in the hands of the Danish king, who was Martin Luther and thanks to whom all Danish churches today are Lutheran.
We will travel further along the River of Time to the buildings created for scientific purposes by the Danish King Christian 4 m. This is a complex of buildings that have survived to this day. We will proceed to the crossing of the pedestrian and to the building where the Danish Parliament Christiansborg is located. We are waiting for fascinating stories about the King-builder Christian 4 m, who longest reigned on the Danish throne, about the visit of Peter the Great to Copenhagen in the 40 thousand army, about the marriage of the Danish Princess Dagmar with the Russian Tsar Alexander 3 m, as well as other interesting aspects of Danish-Russian relations. The pages of history will reveal myths and legends about the founder of the city, Bishop Absalon, about how Copenhagen developed, what Hanseatic merchants were so envious of that they decided not to leave a stone unturned from the fortress of Absalon, about slave-holding Denmark, we will learn how the Danes, without having their own sugar production, managed to become one of the largest sugar exporters in Europe in the 18th century.
We are waiting for those pages of the history of Copenhagen, where we learn about monastic orders, where time dictated its rules and needed a pillar of shame and a place for public executions. Here we will discover interesting aspects of the justice system of modern Denmark; look at the former debt prison, where in theory a person could sit forever. After that, we will come close to the present time and go to the Town Hall Square - in the heart of modern Copenhagen.
Here we will get acquainted with the main features of Danish society on the example of the subway and the town hall building, visit the zero kilometer, learn the legend of the fighting bull and dragon, greet the storyteller Andersen, and Tivoli Park, get acquainted with trumpeters who look after the order in the Danish kingdom, and also try to understand why the Danes have been recognized as the happiest nation on the planet for several years. Are you ready for a historic trip to Copenhagen? Then go!!!
