Copenhagen by bicycle
Description:
If you want to learn and see more about Copenhagen than walking or taking a city centre tour by bus, then a bike tour is for you! The bicycle is the most popular form of transport in Copenhagen. There are about 650,000 bicycles in the city, which is 5 times more than cars. Excessively expensive car parks in the city center and expensive public transport are all aimed at getting a person to move from transport to a bicycle. The bicycle is used by almost all residents, even those with 2 cars, even ministers, setting an example for citizens.
Therefore, traffic jams are rare, and the air is clean even in the city center. For cyclists, here is paradise: comfortable bike lanes, traffic lights, parking at every house, subway or store. A cyclist feels safe and secure in Denmark. Do you want to become a resident of Copenhagen for a day? Then take the bike route!
Our tour will begin with an overview of the central part of the city: the town hall square and the building of the Town Hall, the Dragon fountain, the column of the “zero mark”, the barometer of Utzon, the sculpture of “Trumpers playing on the lures”, the longest pedestrian street in Europe Streget, the monument to Andersen, the Tivoli amusement park, the glyptoteca Karlsberg. Then we will move to the promenade of Calvebord, where we will be able to see one of the masterpieces of Danish modern architecture - the building "Crystal", known for its latest technical and technological solutions. During the walk along the embankment, we will see a house on the water, a place where locals bathe in the city canal, unusual residential houses of the Gemini residence, former silo towers rebuilt into extra-class apartments, the Aller building-boat and the elite district of Havneholmen residential buildings.
Then we’ll cross a pedestrian bridge, take a ride through one of the picturesque parks in Copenhagen and then go to see one of the most controversial places in the city, the Christiania district, where the strangest representatives of the Danish capital live, a place where the trade in light drugs does not stop for a minute or day or night.
After a drive through the Christiania district, we will move to the historical part of the city, where everything began in the 12th century for the city of Copenhagen. We will visit the Danish Parliament Christiansborg, visit Amager Square, the Fountain “Storks”, see the Royal porcelain store “Royal Copenhagen” and the silver design store Georg Ensen, remember the amazing Bishop of Absalon in Hoybro Square and talk about how a small fishing village managed to turn into one of the most beautiful capitals of northern Europe, look at the Church of St. Nicholas, see the unique sculptural composition “Agnett and the Sea Lord” and the Torvaldsen Museum.
Then we will ride through the old city streets, where you can see the really old architecture, the houses in which people live today. Our next stop will be Old and New Square, where the oldest fountain in the city is located, a place that in the Middle Ages was a place of public executions.
Here, we will talk about how Denmark by the end of the 14th century managed to concentrate all the power in Scandinavia, who was the most popular Danish king Christian the 4th, what modern Denmark looks like and why people living here are called the happiest nation on the planet. Then we will return to the Town Hall Square, where we wish each other a good day and mood, and where I will be happy to answer all your questions.
Cycling tours can be extended to 4 hours if cycling is easy for you. In the extended version of the tour, you will learn everything that is in the standard version, plus you will visit the DR byen (DR-Buen) - a complex of buildings of the Danish media and visit the Ørestad district, which 16 years ago was not on the map of Copenhagen, Here we will look at the dancing towers of the Bella Sky hotel and visit the VM Mountain building - garden apartments, where each apartment has its own garden.
Further through the Christiania area, we will drive to the Copenhagen Opera House and admire the Langlinje promenade. We will take a ferry ride to this promenade to get acquainted with the symbol of Copenhagen - the Little Mermaid, the Gefion Fountain and the Amalienborg Palace Ensemble, where the royal family lives.
At the end of the tour, we will take a ride along the embankment of the Nyhavn outlet canal, where narrow four-storey houses pressed tightly together and please the eye with their color, where citizens and travelers love to relax in one of the many cafes, and where the famous storyteller G. H. Andersen lived at one time.
Both bike tour options promise to be exciting for travelers to the Danish kingdom. It is advisable for all travelers to stock up on a bottle of water and wear comfortable shoes for cycling.
