Description:

If during your visit to Denmark you want to get as many vivid impressions as possible, go on an excursion to Rosenborg Castle, an exciting journey through the pages of Danish history, during which we will visit the royal treasury with you and see authentic masterpieces of the Danish past.

Rosenborg is a real Renaissance castle surrounded by a moat with a drawbridge thrown over it. It is the oldest of the castles in Copenhagen and at the same time the smallest. In the greenery of the park surrounding it, it seems just a toy, fabulous castle of Sleeping Beauty. Its toyiness is not accidental, since from the very beginning, since 1606, it was conceived not as a full-fledged castle, but as a summer country cottage of the king. The place where the castle is located in the 17th century was a distant countryside.

It is here, in the fresh air, among the picturesque nature and conceived the Danish king Christian IV to build a small house for recreation, surrounded by a rose garden. It was with roses that the whole park complex around the castle began - the oldest royal park in Denmark, where we will also walk. The word "rose" formed the basis of the name of the palace - "Rosenborg" - "Rose Castle". King Christian IV was fond of growing roses. He prescribed varieties from different countries of the world, he bred new ones. These roses, the Renaissance roses, are still growing near the castle.

Rosenborg has been preserved in its original form since the first quarter of the 17th century, since it has never burned. Now this is a museum, where we will go and during the tour we will talk about the history and culture of Denmark, get acquainted with the Danish kings of the Middle Ages and learn why Christian 4 is considered the most popular monarch in Danish history. We will see many valuable tapestries, paintings, furniture and porcelain, as well as gifts received by kings at different times from foreign monarchs, for example, a gilded bust of the Russian Tsar Peter I by Rastrelli. During the tour, you will hear many legends of the Danish past, visit the knight's hall, where the throne stands (according to the assurances of Frederick 3, which has magical properties), remember how the history of Danish-Russian relations developed, which are more than 400 years old.

Of particular interest are the cellars of the castle, where the treasures of the Danish kings, unique jewelry made of gold, silver, amber and ivory, their crowns, a collection of weapons and other luxury items that the kings of the Middle Ages were so proud of. There are still huge barrels of Christian IV wine in the basements. According to tradition, the now-living Danish Queen Margrethe II will honor her guests with them, but only once a year - on January 1, when she arranges a New Year's reception for members of parliament and foreign ambassadors.

Features of the tour: the opportunity to plunge into the history of Denmark in the shortest possible time, see how kings lived, visit the royal treasury, find out what modern Denmark lives.
