Rosenborg Castle and Danish Crown Jewels

Description:

Rosenborg Castle appeared in the early seventeenth century as a resting place for King Christian IV. Around the castle is the most popular Royal Park, a former private park of Danish monarchs.

For the first century of its existence, Rosenborg was used as a royal residence, over time it turned into a repository of treasures of the Danish Crown, and with the "democratization" of the local monarchy - into a museum.

Among the exhibits of the Rosenborg treasury, the most interesting are the jewels of Danish monarchs: royal regalia of different times, as well as jewelry made of gold, pearls and precious stones.

The jewelry collection is owned by the Royal House and is available to members of the Royal Family. The treasure is currently reserved by the Queen of Denmark. And unlike private jewelry, it cannot be inherited or sold.

The first European collection of crown jewels was created by the French king François 1 in 1530. The jewels of the Danish Crown come from Queen Sophia Magdalena, who in 1770 bequeathed her jewels to the House of Korolev.
