Holman Church

Holmens Kanal 21, 1060 Kø benhavn K, Denmark

Description:

Holman Church is located in the center of Copenhagen on the banks of one of the canals. It was built in 1563 as one of the naval churches of Christian IV. The church is known as the venue for the wedding of Danish Queen Margaret II and Prince Henrik in 1967. In addition, Holman Church is the burial place of the heroes of the Navy Niels Joel and Peter Thordenskjöld, composer Niels Wilhelm Gade and many other prominent people of Denmark.

The appearance of the church has hardly changed since the XVI century. The only changes to the world were made in 1872 during a global renovation. Then all copper structures were replaced by more durable iron, and simple glass windows were replaced by stained glass. Inside the Holman Church there are fragments of Karel van Mander’s art painting, which miraculously survived during the Great Fire.

Inside the church is an ancient organ from 1738. You can listen to it every week on Wednesdays. Interesting and carved chair, established in 1662. It was performed by Abel Schroeder in the color of natural oak. It depicts biblical stories from the time of Moses to Jesus Christ.
