Charlottenborg Palace

Kongens Nytorv 1, 1050 Kø benhavn, Denmark

Description:

Charlottenborg Palace is located in the central part of Copenhagen and is one of the residences of the royal family. It was built in 1683. The palace was originally built by King Christian IV for his favourite Vibke Kruse, but was acquired by Queen Charlotte Amalia, who gave the residence her name. At that time, Copenhagen largely retained the features of a medieval city, so Charlottenborg Palace was supposed to be one of the first modern tall buildings.

The palace complex was built by the famous architect Hansen in the style of Danish and Dutch Baroque. Queen Charlotte also invited Dutch architects Evert Jansen and Hans van Stenwinkel, who made several changes to the appearance of the main building. Thus, the park adjacent to the back of the building and the inner chambers were completely redesigned.

In 1754, the palace was transferred to the Danish Royal Academy of Arts, which remains there to this day. Large art exhibitions are constantly held here. In addition, the gallery houses a library with an extensive collection of art books.
