Fountain of Gefion
Gefion, Churchillparken, 1263 Kø benhavn, Denmark
Description:
In the harbor of Copenhagen is one of the most interesting sights of Denmark - the Gefion fountain. The fountain was installed here in honor of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Carlsberg brewery. It was originally planned to put a fountain in the main square of the city in front of the city hall of Copenhagen, but later it was installed in the park Langelinje, near the city citadel "Castellet".
Gefion was created in 1897-99, and the fountain and pool decorations were completed by 1908. On July 14, the fountain was first turned on.
The fountain is depicted in the form of the goddess Gefion, chasing four bulls. The fountain is not large, and has several steps, beautifully decorated with stones. It pours a huge amount of water, which is beautifully illuminated at nightfall.
