Krystalgade 25, 1172 Kø benhavn K, Denmark

Description:

One of the oldest universities in Northern Europe is located in Copenhagen. Today, the University of Copenhagen is the largest educational and research institution in Denmark. The university has about a hundred different research faculties, laboratories, training centers and museums. TIME magazine has several times noted the University of Copenhagen in the top lists of the best faculties and prestigious educational institutions.

Officially, the University of Copenhagen was founded in 1479 on the initiative of King Christian I, who received special approval from Pope Sixtus IV to establish an educational institution modeled on Germany. Initially, it had only four main faculties: the Faculty of Theology, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Medicine and Philosophy. Like all universities of the Middle Ages, it was part of the universal Roman Catholic Church until 1536. Today, the University of Copenhagen has six faculties and about two hundred programs, including the humanities, law, natural sciences, health and theology.
