Fortress star Castellet

Kastellet 68, 2100 Copenhagen, Denmark

Description:

Castellet Fortress, shaped like a pentagonal star and built in the seventeenth century, is one of the most fortified and powerful defensive structures preserved in Northern Europe. In addition to its historical status, it is still part of the Danish Defence Ministry. Now there are no stone walls and high towers, but from the former grandeur preserved high mounds, which are antique guns. The entrance to the fortress is guarded by the king's guards, and it is impossible to get inside, but the fortress that stretches around the fortress has become a favorite holiday destination.

Construction of the Castellet fortress began under King Frederick III on the site of an old redoubt, which was built in 1626. A few decades later, after the lifting of the Swedish siege of Copenhagen, it was decided to restore the fortifications and expand them. So there was a fortress, called the Citadel of Frederickshavn, but went down in history as the fortress of Castellet. The prototype of the fortress were fortifications, common in the XVI century in Italy. For many years the fortress deteriorated, and in 1989-1999 it was reconstructed.
