Gammel Strand Street
Description:
Gammel Strand in Copenhagen is often called the Old Quay. It runs in the central part of the city along the Slotsholmens Canal. In this area you can travel on foot and by water. In any case, you will discover one of the brightest and most recognizable places in Copenhagen. On the Gammel Strand there is a long row of ancient buildings of the XVIII-XIX centuries. They are all bright, colorful and built in different architectural traditions.
Here are the buildings of the Torvaldsen Museum, the Kunstforeningen Art Gallery and the Ministry of Culture. All buildings have their own history, and over the past 150 years have been supplemented with new decorative elements, which demanded another era. But despite the variety, the Gammel Strand street looks very harmonious. The oldest house No. 48 was built in 1750 by Philippe de Lange. It is one of the few buildings in Copenagen that survived the Great Fire.
On the opposite side of the canal, Christiansborg Palace is visible, located on the island.
