Louisiana Museum of Modern Art

Gl Strandvej 54-56, 3050 Humlebæ k, Denmark

About the company:

The Louisiana Museum of Contemporary Art is located in Humlebeek, 35 kilometers north of Copenhagen. The museum presents visitors with a huge collection of sculpture and painting of the twentieth century, including works by such famous masters as Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso, Max Ernst, Yves Klein, Francis Bacon, as well as works by Russian avant-garde artists.

The museum got its name from the name of the estate, built in 1855 by Alexander Brune and named after his three wives. The museum was founded by Knud W. Jensen in 1958. He wanted to create the first modern art museum in Denmark, which would be interesting to everyone – both connoisseurs and beginners. To do this, he divided his exhibitions into “hot” and “cold” – “hot” were paintings by famous artists, which all viewers are happy to go to, and “cold” – paintings by more complex or less well-known authors. Of the total area of 11.5 thousand square kilometers, 7 500 square meters are used for exhibition purposes.
