Dhaka Temple

140 km south of Aswan

Description:

El Dhaka is the oldest temple known to the Egyptians as Pselket and to the Greeks as Pselchis.
Due to the impending flooding of the region as a result of a high dam, it was moved to the site of El Cebua, about 40 km upstream of the Nile.

The temple we see today was founded by the Meroi (Nubian) king Akamani, it was called Ergamenez by the Greeks.

In the Christian era, the temple was rebuilt into a church, then it was destroyed and the temple was erected again.

In the temple there are two beautiful sanctuaries: the first was built by the Egyptian reformer Arkamani, the second by Pharaoh Augustus.
The sanctuaries contain many ancient monuments dedicated to deities.

El Dhaka Temple is located 100 kilometers from Nubia and Lake Nasser.
