File Island
Description:
This beautiful island is one of the most picturesque in all Egypt. You should take a water taxi to the island.
Philae gained fame during the Ptolemaic dynasty as the center of the cult of the goddess Isis. This complex on the island was actually one of the last remaining sites where the ancient religion survived after the arrival of Christianity in Egypt, officially closed only in 550 AD. The first Christians used the main temple of the island as a church.
Careful reconstruction on the current site is carefully completed, the original appearance and layout of the complex is painstakingly preserved and even the island is landscaped to fit its former location.
