Sphinx Avenue
Description:
Sphinx Avenue is a large alley with a length of 2.7 kilometers, which connects the temples of Luxor and Karnak. After numerous excavations on its territory, archaeologists discovered fragments of statues of sphinxes, as well as other objects dating back to later periods of Egyptian history.
After the excavation, the alley was equipped with a new type of lighting, which emphasizes the beauty of the alley and other archaeological sites (wine and workshops of the Greco-Roman period). The alley project cost 120 million Egyptian pounds.
In ancient times, the alley of the sphinxes had great religious significance. It was used as religious processions and rituals when the kings traveled to the Luxor Temple. The alley was created during the reign of the 30th dynasty of the pharaohs. At that time there were 1,350 sculptures.
