Sharm El Sheikh

Colored canyon

Egypt, Sinai Mountains, 150 km from Sharm el-Sheikh, near the city of Nuweiba.

Description:

The colored canyon deserves the attention of tourists. These are colorful rocks created by nature itself. Here you can see stones not only of traditional white and gray color, but also pink, yellow, purple, red. Their shades range from gentle and calm to saturated with metallic luster.

Scientists believe that the canyon was formed as a result of an earthquake. Water and wind also helped this process. Giant gap, shining with different colors in the sun, will give a lot of positive emotions. If you water the rocks with water, the picture appears brighter. In 2002, the downpours here were so heavy that the rocks shifted and became unstable. Therefore, it is necessary to visit this place only with a guide. It is recommended to visit this place only in dry weather, during the rains it is not safe.

The length of the canyon is 5 kilometers, and the height in some places reaches 30 meters. On the way to the canyon, tourists will meet an oasis where you can relax in the shade of palm trees. The descent is not easy, so the shoes should be comfortable. There is also a place where Queen Cleopatra loved to relax.

You can get to the canyon with a tour by jeep (it is 15 kilometers from the city of Nuweiba).
