Sharm El Sheikh

Park Nabk

South Sinai, Egypt

Description:

Nabq National Park covers the Gulf of Aqaba coast and its interior between the cities of Sharm el-Sheikh and Dahab. This unique area of 600 square kilometers stretches wadi systems, sand dunes, alluvial plains and salt swamps, where many species of animals and plants live.

Here live gazelles, fat people, mountain goats and foxes, as well as a variety of reptiles and invertebrates. Bird lovers will especially enjoy watching herons, spoons, ospreys, gulls, terns and storks. But the greatest interest for tourists in the park Nabk are a variety of plants: there are more than 130 species. One of these plants is the mangrove tree. On the back of the leaves of these trees is salt, because they grow in salty sea water. Processing salt water into fresh water, mangrove trees secrete salt on the leaves. Only in Nabk Park there is an entire Mangrove.

The coast of the park overlooks the Gulf of Aqaba, from where the island of Tiran is visible. Bays and lagoons of unearthly beauty, where squid and small moray eels scurry in the shallow water, the remains of the ship “Maria Schroeder”, thrown by a storm on the reef, are far from a complete list of what you can see on the shore.

If desired, you can swim on the reefs with a mask and a pipe. The relatively small depth combined with a real maze of columnal corals, small grottoes and wells, underwater lawns of algae and an abundance of large fish are ideal for diving enthusiasts.
