Tallinn

Journey to Wiimsy

Description:

When you go from the center of Tallinn along the Pirita Tee highway, you suddenly and imperceptibly find yourself outside the city limits, in the Viimsi volost. The history of the volost, located on the territory of the Viimsi Peninsula, is rooted in ancient times. Already in the Danish Land Book of 1241 there are several settlements located in these coastal areas. In the 16th century, these places were known for a large inn, and in the 20th century, the main estate of the millionaire fishing collective farm named after S. M. Kirov was located on the territory of the peninsula. The kolkhoz not only caught, but also processed and grew fish. And the economy was so successful that, as they said then, communism was built on the territory of a single collective farm. It was then that an ethnographic museum was founded here on the basis of an ancient fishing estate with buildings of the 18th and 20th centuries. The wonderful location of the museum on the wild sea shore, the fresh wind playing with nets, the long residential riga building under the reed roof, the opportunity to plunge into the harsh atmosphere of life of ancient times - all this makes a visit to the museum impressive. And if you add to this the opportunity to have a coffee or a delicious snack in the cult restaurant PATT, located right here and built in the form of an overturned boat, while enjoying the beautiful sea view of old Tallinn, then clearly - this trip you will remember for a long time.
