Port of Turku

Linnankatu 90, 20100 Turku,

Description:

The port of Turku is a seaport in southwestern Finland in the city of Turku. The port is located at the confluence of the Aurajoki River into the Archipelago Sea (part of the Baltic Sea between the Gulf of Bothnia and the Gulf of Finland). In the Middle Ages, the city, and with it the port, actively grew on the banks of the river. At first, the port accepted sailboats, and since 1830, steam ships began to carry out regular flights from here. Turku was an important military port during the Crimean and later World War I. During World War II, it was home to a navy and is still the main base of the Finnish navy. Turku is constantly developing as a passenger and cargo port. Currently, five terminals operate on its territory: container, road, "Eastern Land Bridge" - a transport corridor from Stockholm through Turku to Russia by rail, a warehouse terminal and a cruise port of Turku.
