Turku Art Museum

Aurakatu 26, 20100 Turku, Finland

About the company:

Turku Art Museum is one of the largest collections of paintings, graphics and sculptures of Finnish and foreign masters in Finland, located in Turku on the hill of Puolalanmäki.

Located in a gray stone castle designed by Gustav Nyström in 1904, the building itself was reopened after a lengthy restoration in April 2005.

The heyday of the castle fell in the middle of the XVI century, during the reign of Duke Johan and Katarina Jagiellonica. It was then that the floor was built in the Renaissance style and the chambers of the royal couple.

Today it is one of the most visited sights of Finland. Popular places in the castle are exhibitions dedicated to the Stone, Bronze, Iron Ages and the Middle Ages of the figures of Duke Johan and Katarina Jagiellonica, depicting life at the court during the Renaissance prison, where King Eric XIV kept medieval wooden sculptures of a collection of old toys and firearms. Those interested in numismatics also have something to look at.
