Crafts Museum

Luostarinmä ki Handicrafts Museum, Vartiovuorenkatu 2, P.O. Box 286, 20101 Turku

About the company:

The Luostarinmäki Crafts Museum is a unique museum. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that all buildings and houses on its territory are real. They really lived and worked artisans in the XIX – XX centuries.

The Museum of Crafts is located in the city of Turku, under the open sky. It was opened on 29 June 1940. The museum has 18 quarters with authentic wooden houses – living quarters and craft workshops. Examining these rooms, you can see how the artisans of the last century lived and worked: their customs, life, their jobs and things that they used. Among the interesting houses are the watchmaker’s workshop, the house of a sailor and a tobacco manufacturer.

The museum also has its own post office and shop, where you can buy handicrafts, as well as sweets made according to ancient recipes.

Every year, at the end of August, the Crafts Week is held here. And it's known on a global scale. Also, the Luostarinmäki Crafts Museum received a well-deserved award for its uniqueness - in 1984 it was awarded the international tourist prize "Golden Apple".
