Berlin

Gutten Morgen Oleg Krass is a somewhat sad story. "Gutten Morgen.".

Description:

Gutten Morgen

A bit of a sad story. When I first moved to Berlin to my new apartment, I became a first time bike rider. Fortunately, there are bicycle paths everywhere in the city. Then I got tired of it and started taking public transport and walking. From the stop to my house, it was necessary to walk 300 meters along a five-story building with the first German floor high. The building is rather pre-war still built. In the window of the first floor, which was always open, sat the same grandmother of a very respectable age, all wrinkled like that. And one day, when I approached her for the first time, I suddenly heard over my head, "Gutten Morgen." I responded in kind by inertia. And if I was walking in the evening, there was a constant Gutten Abend. I understand that's how she greeted all the passers-by. And always as usual from this wide open window. Obviously, she could no longer walk on her own, and that window was her only outlet to the outside world, to people. Surprisingly, she was always there, at any time of the day and even until late at night. It seemed that she did not sleep during the day, so as not to miss anything and no one from this outside world, which suddenly became so small for her, just the size of this window. And she must have loved people a lot. Every time I went home, I was ready for this greeting, and it continued throughout the warm season, day after day, morning and evening. Then it got cold, there were fewer people walking down the street, and my grandmother stopped looking out. During this time, I divorced, moved to a new apartment, which is characteristic, immediately nearby (well, just lucky!) and changed the address. Winter didn’t want to end for a long time, but when spring started and it got warmer, I remembered this grandmother. In order to get to my house and walk along that house, I now had to make a considerable detour on foot. I had been walking around for a month, even when I was late, hoping to hear the cherished "Gutten Morgen," but now that window was closed tightly and curtained with thick curtains. Grandma was gone. The summer is coming to an end, and I keep walking past this house and quietly repeating to myself, "Gutten Morgen."
