Anchiskhati Church
Description:
The Church for the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God (Anchiskhati Church) is located in old Tbilisi. It dates back to the sixth century. One of the ancient buildings that have survived to our time. Built in the style of three-nave basilica. Very simple decoration, without exquisite decor. Repeatedly in the 17th and 17th centuries, the church was destroyed, but on the western side there was a medallion with a cross carved out of stone. The temple owes its name to the icon of the Savior, which was transferred here from the Anchi Cathedral. Tourists enjoy listening to the Georgian choir, one of the best in Georgia. In the temple there are three branches separated by columns. The exits are decorated with traditional Georgian ornaments and vine. Inside are many icons of the 19th century, on the walls – frescoes. There is a shadow inside, creating a mysterious atmosphere. You can walk from St. John Shavteli or the Cathedral of Zion. You can also use the metro (station "Freedom Square"), buses 2, 25, 31, 37, 44, 46, 55, 59 and 137 (stop "Baratshvili"), city taxi.
